Manchester United Gets Green Light To Bring Matheus Cunha

JAKARTA - Manchester United is exploring the possibility of activating the release clause in Matheus Cunha's contract at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils want to strengthen their attack this summer and have identified Cunha as one of their main targets.

A source told ESPN that the club had received positive indications of its willingness to move to Old Trafford if it was allowed to open formal negotiations.

Cunha is available in a 62.5 million deal despite competition to get her signatures from a number of Premier League clubs.

The 25-year-old hopes to leave Molineux ahead of next season.

He signed a new contract with Wolves in February 2025 with a duration of cooperation until June 2029. However, the contract allowed Cunha to move in the summer.

Meanwhile, Wolves ensured their survival in the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim looks engrossed in talking to the striker when the game ends and mentions the Brazilian's name in a pre-match press conference.

Since arriving in England from Atletico Madrid on loan in January 2023, Cunha has scored 32 league goals - including 16 goals this season.

One of the reasons Cunha is targeted by Manchester United is its effectiveness in the 3-4-3 system used by the Vitor Pereira coach - the same tactics used by Amorim.

Cunha has been set to fill one of the two roles number 10 behind the center forward.

Even so, Manchester United will not stop at Cunha in the summer market later. They are also looking for a new center-forward to support the role of the Brazilian player.

The names Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen are the two center-forwards touted on Manchester United's radar.
