Taufik said that Jonathan was trusted to lead the Indonesian squad without special considerations, except only carrying out the task of maintaining the team's cohesiveness in the tournament later.
"Now he is the leader. That can be anyone. Give an opportunity to take responsibility. Anyone can, but Jonathan will choose," said Taufik.
Jonathan should have been accompanied by the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung as vice-captain. However, Gregoria was confirmed to be absent due to health problems.
The 2025 Sudirman Cup will take place from 27 April to 4 May 2025 at the Fenghuang Gimnasium, Xiamen, China. A total of 16 countries are contestants for the biennial event.
Indonesia will start the journey from Group D with India, England and Denmark. The top two teams in the final standings will get tickets to qualify for the quarter-finals.
