PBSI Aims For Indonesia To Reach The 2025 Sudirman Cup Final

The General Chairperson of PBSI, Fadil Imran (central), believes that Indonesia can go to the 2025 Sudirman Cup final (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) targets Indonesia to reach the final round in the 2025 Sudirman Cup mixed team event.

The General Chairperson of PBSI, Fadil Imran, is confident that the squad sent this year can reach the final round as was done in the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cups.

"Like the experience of the 2024 Thomas Cup, we can enter the final, as well as the Uber Cup. That is our target," said Fadil.

Indonesia has sent a total of 13 singles/pairs to the 2025 Sudirman Cup. The national badminton parent combines the composition of young and senior players in the team.

In the men's singles sector, for example, there are the names of the 2023 junior world champion Alwi Farhan and Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah. Then in the women's singles there is Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Indonesia came to the 2025 Sudirman Cup with the status of the second seed, behind the Chinese host who was considered to have the most even power in all sectors.

"What we send is a generation player after seniors, of course our target is to give them flight hours to be ready to defend Indonesia in the long term in the future," said Fadil.

Indonesia will start competition in the 2025 Sudirman Cup from Group D with India, Denmark and England. Alwi and his friends will at least finish in the runner-up position if they want to go to the knockout round.

Indonesia has only won once in the history of the Sudirman Cup. The most successful country in this competition is China, which has collected a total of 13 titles.

The 2025 Sudirman Cup will take place from 27 April to 4 May 2025 at Fenghuang Gymnasium, Xiamen, China. In total there are 16 countries that are contestants for the biennial event.
