JAKARTA Indonesian mainstay women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, fell ill, so it was threatened with being absent from the 2025 Sudirman Cup mixed team tournament.
The pain made Gregoria miss the simulation match held by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) at the Cipayung National Training Center, East Jakarta, on Monday, April 21, 2025.
"Jorji (Gregoria Mariska Tunjung) is sick. Wait for confirmation from the doctor (whether it can appear in the Sudirman Cup or not)," said PBSI General Chair Fadil Imran.
PBSI has previously released the names included in the 2025 Sudirman Cup squad. Gregoria, who won the 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medal, is included in the list with Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Putri and Gregoria were supposed to face off in a simulation match. However, Gregoria's absence made PBSI install Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo for the match against Putri.
Fadil also hopes that this year's Indonesian badminton squad can reach the final round even though the realistic target is a bit difficult to achieve.
"Trying to achieve the final target. This transformation cannot be instantaneous and is still far from sempura. So, if it reaches the final it is an extraordinary achievement," he said.
Indonesia has only secured one title in the history of the Sudirman Cup. The only title was obtained in the first edition of 1989 which took place in Jakarta.
The Red-White squad will start this year's journey from Group D with India, Denmark and England. To enter the knockout stages, Indonesia has at least finished in the group runner-up position.
