JAKARTA The 2025 High School (SMA) inter-team tournament titled High School Basketball Championship 2025 is ready to be held for the first time and is expected to be an annual event.
The tournament, which is a private sector initiation program, the NBA Rising Star, on the recommendation of the Perbasi DPP, is planned to take place on April 21-26 2025 at the UPH Karawaci Basketball Field.
Representative of the Organizing Committee, Murni Setionegoro, said that this is a tournament part of the Asian NBA series so that it becomes a rare opportunity for Indonesia.
"This tournament was held regarding one of the NBA Asia Pacific High School (SMA) tournament programs in Singapore, where the tournament champion will become the representative team of SMA Indonesia," said Murni.
Unfortunately, this golden opportunity cannot be taken by all teams. In total there were 12 participants who were contestants in the event, consisting of eight men's teams and four women's teams.

Murni said that this restriction was related to the timing of the tournament. He explained that the collaboration in realizing this tournament only lasted less than two months.
"Hopefully next year we can leave Java. This year there will be many participants from Java and one from Papua. Hopefully in the coming year there will be additional schools."
"For the next year, with longer preparations, we really want to include more of the best schools throughout Indonesia," said Murni.
Eight teams in the men's category are SMA 2 Bandung, SMA Jubile, UPH College, SMA YPPK Agustinus, SMA Tri Mulya Bandung, SMA PPOP Jakarta, SMA BOPKRI 1 Yogyakarta, and SMA Tunas Bangsa.
Meanwhile, from the women's category there is SMA Penabur Cirebon, SMA Global Achievement Bandung, SMA Jubile, UPH College. All participants in each category will compete in the group phase.
Both men and women, will proceed to the semifinals after struggling in the group stage which then to the finals to get the winning team from each category.
Murni explained that the 2025 High School Basketball will offer a different experience for young Indonesian players. The reason is, they struggle with the big names of each school.
"Of course this program is expected to help the Perbasi DPP in strengthening the regeneration program in the Indonesian Basketball National Team for future proud achievements of Indonesian basketball," said Murni.
Former Indonesian National Team basketball player, Rony Gunawan, also welcomed the High School Basketball event. He hopes that there will be players who will later be able to strengthen the Indonesian Basketball National Team.
"This is an extraordinary event. I hope this event will continue until the long term and other teams from outside Java can participate in the following year. I hope this can give birth to players who strengthen the Indonesian National Team," he said.
