JAKARTA The Central Board of Representatives of the Indonesian Basketball Association (DPP Perbasi) and Bank Mandiri are collaborating to strengthen the national basketball ecosystem.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) or memorandum of understanding between the two parties took place at the Plaza Mandiri Auditorium, Gatot Soebroto, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

The General Chairperson of Perbasi, Budisatrio Dwijandono, said that this collaboration would support a number of programs from the national basketball parent, both ongoing and running.

"Synergy with Bank Mandiri will help us in creating a better ecosystem for the development of athletes and competition so that Indonesian basketball can be more competitive," said Budisatrio.

One of the programs that Perbasi will focus on is the preparation for the development of early childhood talent. This program is important because a number of international age groups will be ready to be held in Indonesia in the next four years.

Currently, Perbasi has signed host nations agreement (HNA) as the host of FIBA U-17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2028, FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup 2029, FIBA U-16 Women's Basketball Asia Cup 2027, and FIBA U-18 Basketball Asia Cup 2028.

Budi said that to welcome the four events, the Perbasi DPP through the National Team Agency (BTN) will focus on fostering talented young athletes both domestically and abroad, aka diaspora players.

"We also focus on developing basketball athletes starting at the age of eight through a mini basketball program with the target of the basketball industry and its achievements going hand in hand," he said.

On the other hand, this collaboration further shows Bank Mandiri's consistency in accelerating national sports achievements. Basketball as a potential sport is considered to need support in order to achieve achievements.

President Director of Bank Mandiri, Darmawan Junaidi, said that this collaboration would pave the way for young Indonesian talents to compete. In addition, this is part of the company's responsibility in supporting the progress of national sports.

"Bank Mandiri hopes that this initiative can give birth to more quality players who are able to make Indonesia proud on various world stages," said Darmawan.

Bank Mandiri previously formed a strategic partnership with the 2025 Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) as the main partner.

The support includes various crucial aspects, ranging from developing young talents, improving league standards, to organizing more professional competitions.
