Ole Romeny Wants To Immediately Appear Defending The Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - The new Indonesian national team player Ole Romeny admitted that he could not wait to start playing with the Garuda team.

"I can't wait to compete for all Indonesian fans and people, and can contribute to the Indonesian national team," said Romeny, through an Instagram upload by the General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, Sunday, after he finished undergoing his oath of allegiance to become an Indonesian citizen (WNI) in London, England, Saturday.

Romeny became an Indonesian citizen not alone because he was with Dion Markx and Team Geypens who were also projected for the Indonesian U-20 national team.

The 24-year-old striker then thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for helping the process of transferring his citizenship to reality.

"Of course I want to thank the President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto for trying this process happen. It is truly an honor to be able to play for this country," added the former Utrecht FC player.

Meanwhile, Erick in the upload said the arrival of Romeny, Markx, and Geypens was PSSI's way of strengthening the strength of the national team in all age groups.

Together with Ole Romeny, two other players, namely Dion Markx and Team Geypens, also officially became Indonesian citizens after taking the oath. Apart from the senior national team, we will also strengthen the young national team with the best talents who are ready to fight for Red and White," Erick explained.

Romeny just joined Oxford in this winter transfer window, to be precise on January 5. At Oxford, Romeny has played three times with all three coming on as a substitute for a total of 35 minutes playing. The three matches were against Stoke City, Bristol City, and Burnley.

Romeny will make his debut for Indonesia when the Garuda team plays in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March. That month Indonesia will face Australia in Sydney on March 20 and Bahrain in Jakarta on March 25.
