JAKARTA The pencak silat sports (sports) have the opportunity to appear at the 2026 Asian Games which will take place at Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.

This possibility arose after the President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), Raja Sapta Oktohari, held a meeting with the Oympic Council of Asia (OCA).

During the meeting which took place in Kuwait, OCA was represented by Director General Captain Husain Al-Mussalam and OCA Deputy Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari.

"On that occasion, OCA stated that it agreed to fight for pencak silat so that it could be competed in the next Asian Games," Oktohari said in a statement received.

Efforts to keep pencak silat competed regularly in international events have recently been carried out by NOC Indonesia. The big target is that these sports can enter the Olympics.

Pencak silat was last competed in the Asia Games in 2018 when Indonesia hosted. At that time, this event took place in Jakarta and Palembang.

Okto said that apart from going to the Asian Games, pencak silat also has a chance to appear at the 2026 Youth Olympic which will take place in Dakar, Senegal.

"Dakar has begun to be linked to include pencak silat. So, NOC Indonesia will maximize this opportunity so that pencak silat can become part of the Youth Olympics," he said.

Currently, the pencak silat sport is undergoing an assessment process to become a WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) signing.

After that, pencak silat must also become a member of AIMS (Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sport). This must also go through an assessment process that does not take place easily.

Second, the assessment is likely to be completed in 2025. If the process goes smoothly, the process of becoming an IOC member can begin in 2026.

Thus, the membership of the IOC is likely to be obtained in the following year. So, pencak silat has a great opportunity to become an exhibition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
