Spanish National Team Boycotted Due To Dani Olmo Case?

JAKARTA - Rumors were strong that Barcelona players boycotted the Spanish National Team following the case that befell Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

Olmo and Victor's fate is unclear because La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rejected their registration for the second half of the season.

La Liga and RFEF argued that Barcelona could not prove they obeyed the league's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules according to the December 31, 2024 deadline.

In addition, the re-registration of the Blaugrana against Olmo and Victor was rejected on the basis of not being able to register the same players in the same season twice.

Because of the case, the Catalan TV3 channel said that the Barcelona players who were subscribed to the Spanish National Team threatened to refuse to play for the country. This is a form of protest.

However, Barcelona midfielder Pedri denied the news.

"People say the Spanish National Team players won't go (playing). I was surprised to hear that, it was a lie."

"I will not say no to the Spanish National Team, I like playing for Spain. That's a lie, I hope no one believes it," said Pedri.

Olmo and Victor can currently be temporarily registered as Barcelona players.

The Spanish Supreme Sports Court (CSD) granted the registration permit after the Blaugrana filed an appeal against the La Liga and RFEF decisions.

However, permission from CSD only applies as long as they release the case until it makes a final decision.

At least, CSD takes about three months before the final decision is made for Olmo and Victor.

"This is good news for us. Their position at that time was very difficult because they knew they couldn't play."

"I was accompanied by Dani Olmo at the dining table while we were eating. It was difficult to travel here without knowing if you could play. I am very happy for him and for Pau, what is certain is that they will contribute a lot," said Pedri.

Olmo and Victor were also included in the Barcelona squad while silencing Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final (Supercopa de Espana) on Monday, January 13, 2025, early morning WIB.

Only Olmo was fielded by Hansi Flick in that match as a substitute in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile, the decision from CSD turned out to have resulted in contracts from several La Liga clubs.

One club that clearly disagrees is Atletico Madrid. Therefore, there is a possibility that an appeal will be made by clubs who reject CSD's temporary decision, apart from La Liga.

"Every club has its own opinion on each case. I'm happy to have them on the team, they both matter to us. What other people think is their opinion," said Pedri.

Apart from that, if it is true that there is a refusal to defend the Spanish National Team, Barcelona players will be overshadowed by sanctions.

The reason is, Spanish law requires players chosen by La roja to fulfill the call.
