JAKARTA The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) officially appointed the Indonesian coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, to serve as the coach of their men's doubles sector. BAM confirmed the appointment of Herry IP at a press conference at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, western Indonesia time.
"The Association of Badminton Malaysia (BAM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Indonesian double legend Herry Iman Pierngadi as the new national men's doubles head coach," BAM wrote in their X account.
BAM completed the appointment of Herry IP after going through considerations in the board meeting and support from its members.
Herry, 62, is seen as the ideal coach to guide the Malaysian men's doubles squad. During his 25 years with the Indonesian men's doubles team, Herry brought many difficult-to-match successes.
He was recorded as having won two Olympic gold medals each with Candra Wijaya/Tony Gunawan (Sydney 2000) and Hendra Setiawan/Markis Kido (Beijing 2008).

Hendra also claimed three world titles with Mohammad Ahsan (2013, 2015, and 2019). This pair even maintained world number one in a fairly long period.
Another pair who were successful under Herry IP's cold hands were Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo. They are the world's former world number one pair and the All England title winner.
