Shin Tae-yong Fired From The Indonesian National Team, South Korean Media Comments On Kluiver's Experience

The dismissal of Shin Tae-yong is in the spotlight of South Korean media (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - PSSI's decision to fire Shin Tae-yong received the spotlight from South Korean media. The appointment of Patrick Kluivert as a substitute also drew harsh criticism because it was deemed incomparable.

PSSI officially fired Shin Tae-yong on Monday, January 6, 2025. Along with the news, Erick Thohir as PSSI General Chair also announced that he would introduce his successor on January 12, 2025.

Shin Tae-yong's situation then received the spotlight from South Korean media. The reason PSSI's evaluation was deemed inappropriate because Shin Tae-yong had recently received a contract extension until 2027.

In addition, the figure of Kluivert who is a substitute is also considered not commensurate because he is still a beginner coach with minimal experience.

"(Patrick) Kluiver has been a legendary Dutch striker for years. However, his coaching career isn't that great," wrote South Korean media, Osen, quoted on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Previously, Kluivert had been an assistant coach of the Dutch National Team during the Louis van Gaal era at the 2014 World Cup. However, direct experience as head coach was limited to leading the Curacao National Team and Adana Demispor in Super Lig (Super Turkey League).

"In fact, the CLuiver who took over Demispor in 2023 was forced to leave the club after five months of taking the lead. He also has a serious criminal record," Osen wrote again.

Kluivert was accused of being responsible for an accident that killed another driver in 1995. Later, he was caught driving drunk in 2002 and was accused of sexual assault in 1997.

Although many are involved in alleged criminal acts, Kluiver has never served a sentence for being found not guilty without sufficient evidence.

"Kluivert, which is almost like a beginner, cannot be compared to Shin Tae-yong's coaching career. The South Korean coach has also managed to boost Indonesia's FIFA ranking from 173 in the world to 125th in the last five years."

"Suporters were shocked and disappointed with PSSI's decision to fire Shin Tae-yong. The public also assessed that Shin Tae-yong had had a positive impact," wrote Osen.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kluivert, who is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on January 11, 2025, brought two assistants who are also Dutch passports, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat.
