Fired From PSSI, Shin Tae-yong Prays For The Indonesian National Team To Qualify For The 2026 World Cup

Shin Tae-yong hopes that the Indonesian national team can qualify for the 2026 World Cup (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - Shin Tae-yong was officially fired by PSSI as coach of the Indonesian national team on Monday, January 6, 2025. Even though his tenure ended, he still prayed for the Garuda Squad to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The message was conveyed by Shin through the Manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, who had met directly with the South Korean coach.

"Shin Tae-yong received termination of employment from PSSI," said Sumardji.

"Shin Tae-yong is also grateful for the trust given for approximately five years," said the Indonesian national team manager, continuing Shin Tae-yong's message.

Furthermore, Sumardji also said that Shin Tae-yong also left messages and hopes for the Indonesian national team.

The 54-year-old coach even prayed for the Garuda Squad to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

"The message is that Shin Tae-yong prays that the Indonesian national team can qualify for the 2026 World Cup," said Sumardji.

After no longer collaborating with Shin Tae-yong, PSSI also announced that they had carried out a new coach search process.

The figure was acknowledged by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir, who is a coach from the Netherlands.

"It (the new coach) is from Europe, the country is from the Netherlands," said Erick Thohir in an official statement in Central Jakarta on Monday, January 6, 2025, afternoon.
