Shin Tae-yong's Contract Terminated Plan After The Indonesia Vs China National Team Match

PSSI has planned to kick out Shin Tae-yong after the match against China in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chair (Ketum), Erick Thohir, talked a lot about the decision of the federation to end cooperation with Shin Tae-yong in the Indonesian national team. He revealed that the plan had even emerged since October 2024 after the Indonesian national team match against China.

Shin Tae-yong officially broke his contract as coach of the Indonesian national team as of Monday, January 6, 2025. This decision ends the cooperation that has been established with the Garuda Squad for four years or starting from 2020.

Previously, speculation about the continuation of Shin Tae-yong's fate had indeed spread on social media. Regarding this matter, Erick Thohir after submitting an official statement also opened the facts no less surprising.

He said that Shin Tae-yong's hot situation in the Garuda squad's dressing room turned out to have been felt before the match against China in the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. However, with various considerations, the decision to replace the coach was canceled.

"If I look at the dynamics, this is quite complex. If at that time we made a hasty decision, it might not be good either," said Erick Thohir when met in Central Jakarta, Monday, January 6, 2025.

"However, it was felt before the match against China. It's just that the time is too narrow for it (to replace the coach), yes."

"The best, yes, today because we still have 2.5 months to prepare," said the PSSI chairman again.

After officially ending the collaboration with Shin Tae-yong, Erick Thohir revealed that PSSI had found a replacement figure.

The new coach will come from the Netherlands. The introductory moment will take place on January 12, 2025.

"The new coach on 11 (January 2025) comes and later on 12 (January 2025) we will hold a press conference with the media. So, later it will be open to questions," said Erick Thohir.

The new coach's first stage that has yet to be leaked is to guard the Indonesian national team in the away match against Australia.

The match, which was held in March 2025, was a continuation match for the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification.
