JAKARTA - Cristiano Ronaldo said he believed Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior was not fairly eyed for the 2024 Ballon d'Or award.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards last weekend, Ronaldo said that Vinicius deserved the award over Rodri from Manchester City.

Vinicius and colleagues at Real Madrid boycotted the award ceremony in Paris organized by France Football magazine.

"In my opinion, he (Vinicius) deserves to win the Golden Ballon d'Or. In my opinion, it's not fair."

"I said in front of everyone. They gave it to Rodri, he also deserved it."

"However, they should have given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and scored in the final," Ronaldo said.

Vinicius was later awarded the FIFA Player of the Year award earlier this month and won the Globe Soccer Player of the Year award last weekend.

Meanwhile, Barcelona's female team star, Aitana Bonmati, won the FIFA Women's Player of the Year award, after receiving the 2024 Ballon d'Or Feminin.

Ronaldo, who has won five Ballon d'Or, has not let go of criticizing France Football magazine.

"You know these parties, they always do the same thing," he said.

Ronaldo then praised Globe Soccer, who named him the 2024 Best Middle Eastern Player.

The Portugal international has scored 74 goals in 83 games since joining a free transfer in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United.

Apart from that, Ronaldo took aim at the Red Devils by saying the club was still struggling with the issues stemming from deeper problems.

"The Manchester United problem is the same. The problem doesn't always lie with the coach. The problem is more than that."

"If you raise fish in the aquarium and it gets sick, then you remove it, fix the problem, then put it back in the aquarium, you will get sick again," Ronaldo said.
