Frenkie De Jong Agent Denies Rumors Of Transfer To Saudi Arabian Club

JAKARTA - Frenkie de Jong's agent has dismissed the story linking the midfielder with a move to a Saudi Arabian club. He said his client remained fully focused on achieving success with Barcelona.

Reports in Spain claim Ali Dursun, who represents De Jong, held talks with several Saudi Arabian clubs about possible transfers. You see, the Dutchman had difficulty getting minutes to play at Barcelona.

"The story of a possible move to Saudi Arabia is nonsense," Dursun responded to De Telegraaf.

"They just distract from Frenkie's real ambition, namely to shine at Barcelona, his club and a place that makes him feel at home."

"Both parties are happy with each other and maybe we can be together longer," said Dursun again.

The 27-year-old joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has a contract until 2026. However, he is currently experiencing his toughest time since moving to Spain.

He was absent in the first few months of the season due to an ankle injury he suffered in April 2024. He finally returned to action in the first team in October 2024.

Before returning, he spoke of mental trauma caused by the injury, which also ruled him out of the Euros with the Dutch National Team.

The playing minutes have been hard to get since then, with Manager Hansi Flick often choosing Marc Casada, Pedri, Gavi, and Dani Olmo over De Jong in midfield.

Of De Jong's 13 appearances in all events this season, he only started twice.

Then, he was only on the line-up but was not played in Barcelona's last two games before the winter break, losing to Leganes and Atletico Madrid.

Flick has spoken regularly about his desire to bring out De Jong's best abilities. The reason is, the German coach is a big fan of the Dutchman.

"Now he has to regain the confidence he needs," Flick said at the end of November 2024.

"We have to give this. I know it's important for him to play. Right now, we see every game, step by step."

"We want to play with the best team we can give now. This is probably why he doesn't have the playing minutes he wants."

"He will definitely come back, I'm 100 percent sure, but it will take time," Flick said again.

Barcelona returned to action after the winter break on December 5, 2025 WIB when they visited Barbastro in the Copa del Rey.

They then faced Athletic Club in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup on January 9, 2025 WIB in Saudi Arabia.
