BWF World Tour Finals 2024: Dejan/Gloria Run Aground In Group Round

Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja stopped in the group stage of the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja stopped in the group stage of the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals after losing in the last match.

They failed to maintain the advantage of the first game and surrendered 21-17, 15-21, and 14-21 against Malaysia's representative, Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie, in the third match of Group B on Friday, December 13, 2024.

"In the first game we played quite well. The side of the field was also good for us to run the pattern we wanted. In the second game, the side of the field won a bit of a wind," said Dejan after the match.

This result makes Dejan/Gloria only pocket one point from three matches. They complete the group phase in third place in the final standings.

Dejan/Gloria only won their first match against the Japanese pair, Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Satio, which took place in the rubber game.

"It's a shame that we couldn't advance to the semifinals for the first time we played the World Tour Finals. However, overall we have tried our best," said Dejan.

BWF World Tour Finals 2024 is Dejan's debut. Unlike her partner Gloria, who has played here with her old partner Hafiz Faizal.

Dejan/Gloria ended the season without getting a single title. Their best journey was twice to be runner-up at the Macau Open and the 2024 Korea Masters.

The pair will have their last tournament as a couple at the Malaysia Open 2025. After that Dejan will partner Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti at the India Open a week later.

"In 2024 it is not easy for us, there have been ups and downs several times. We are grateful to be here even though we have not been able to advance to the next round. For me 2024 is an extraordinary year," said Dejan.
