2024 AFF Cup: Shin Tae-yong Says Justin Hubner And Ivar Jenner Are Likely To Just Play In The Final

Justin Hubner and Ivar Jenner are likely absent from defending the Indonesian national team throughout December in the 2024 AFF Cup (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team will start the struggle in the 2024 AFF Cup on December 9, 2024, against Myanmar. Since the beginning of the agenda, Shin Tae-yong has confirmed that Justin Hubner and Ivar Jenner will be absent.

Shin Tae-yong said in a press conference session before the match, he said Hubner and Jenner would miss December 2024.

This means that the two naturalized players can only play for the Indonesian national team in the final.

"Ivar (Jenner) and Justin (Hubner) based on the club's decision, cannot join, especially in December 2024," Shin Tae-yong was quoted as saying Monday, December 9, 2024.

According to the agreement made with each player club, the two of them have just received permission to close to the Garuda Squad if they qualify from the 2024 AFF Cup semifinals.

Later, the top parties of the 2024 AFF Cup will be held in two legs, respectively on January 2 and 5, 2025.

However, there is also a chance that Hubner and Jenner can move closer if the Indonesian national team passes the semifinals. The 2024 AFF Cup top four matches are scheduled for two legs from 26 to 30 December 2024.

Meanwhile, Shin Tae-yong remains confident in facing the inaugural match against Myanmar at the Thuwunna Stadium on Monday, December 9, 2024, even though he did not include Hubner and Jenner.

"This is our first match in this tournament. Opponents have good quality. While we bring young players to prepare for the next tournament, namely the U-23 Asian Cup Qualification and also the 2025 SEA Games."

"Therefore, we want players to add experience and develop this team to prepare for the next event," said Shin Tae-yong.

In the 2024 AFF Cup this time, Shin Tae-yong decided to bring 24 players who were dominated by U-22 players. Most of them even got a call to the senior squad for the first time.

On the other hand, as many as 16 of the 24 Indonesian national team players who will compete in the 2024 AFF Cup do not yet have caps. They have the potential to make their debut against Myanmar.
