Menpora Hopes Indonesian Athletics Can Compete In The Olympics

JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Aritedjo revealed that Indonesian athletics must be able to compete in international arena tournaments such as the Olympics.

This was conveyed by Menpora Dito when receiving a visit from the Executive Board of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) at the Kemenpora Office, Jakarta.

"Our target is the Asian Games to the Olympics. We hope that this athletic can compete in the Olympics because it has potential. What is certain is that we support it," explained Menpora Dito quoting Antara.

To look at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, PB PASI has now prepared a long-term plan, one of which is by sending Lalu Muhammad Zohri to undergo national training (pelatnas) in the United States for a year.

"The plan in the future is to train the camp in America for 12 months," said the Secretary General of PB PASI, Tigor Tanjung.

During the meeting, Tigor also provided a report on a number of annual championships to be held in 2025.

Tigor said that PB PASI is now also preparing to look at a number of championships both at the national and international levels.

PB PASI will hold a competition for the U-20 National Championships and seniors in August 2025 at the Madya Senayan Stadium, Jakarta. Then there is the U-18 and U-20 SEA Youth in October 2025 at the North Sumatra Sport Center Main Stadium.

Then, PB PASI also competed by sending athletes to participate in a number of international championships ranging from South Korea, Japan, China, to Thailand.

"We are grateful that the PB PASI national athletic training camp in Pangalengan went well," explained Tigor.
