Shin Tae-yong Asks Indonesian Footballers To Sharpen Basic Engineering And Maintain Attitude

JAKARTA - Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong asked footballers in the country to continue to sharpen basic techniques and maintain their attitude both on and off the field.

"The most important thing is never forget the basic techniques. Then, you have to maintain attitude because our behavior will definitely be seen," Shin said at the 2024 AFF Cup trophy tour in Jakarta, Saturday.

The man from South Korea said that many Indonesian footballers often abandon their basic abilities because they are tempted to master difficult tricks.

In fact, he said, basic football techniques such as passing, dribble, kicking and controlling the ball can be an effective weapon to beat opponents.

"Many players forget basic techniques after tricks that are considered cool. Only with basic techniques can they become good footballers," he said.

According to Shin, Indonesian players actually have good potential.

That's why he always advises them to continue to learn and hone their abilities without ignoring basic things.

Then, Shin also reminded all Indonesian footballers to maintain their attitude and control on and off the field.

He also hopes that Indonesian footballers can play a role in people's lives.

"Although the soccer player is an athlete, it is necessary to have a good attitude such as helping social problems in Indonesia," said Shin.

Shin Tae-yong himself is a coach who puts a player forward.

He did not hesitate to write off or not call players to the Indonesian national team if he did not have positive behavior.

Meanwhile, regarding the 2024 AFF Cup trophy tour which was attended by Shin Tae-yong, the activity was part of the publication of the 2024 AFF Cup implementation which was held on December 8, 2024-5 January 2025.

In the tournament, Indonesia, which will field the U-22 national team, is in Group B with Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.

Indonesia's first match in the group took place on December 9, 2024 in Yangon, Myanmar. Then, Indonesia will host Laos in Jakarta on December 12, 2024, travel to Vietnam three days later and fight again in Indonesia against the Philippines in the final group party, December 21, 2024.

Since the AFF Cup was held in 1996, Indonesia has never won the tournament.

Indonesia's best achievement in the AFF Cup was to become a finalist or second-placed which was obtained six times, namely in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2020.
