Russia and Vietnam signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Ninh Thuan-1 nuclear power plant in March 2026.

Vietnam also hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Vietnam in 2027.
"We have started to prepare for the APEC Summit. We hope President Putin will visit and participate," said Dang.
Vietnamese official Le Minh Hung, met with Putin on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan on June 18 and conveyed an invitation from President To Lam to visit Vietnam.
