Aldi Mahendra, First Indonesian To Win WorldSSP300

JAKARTA - Racer Aldi Satya Mahendra confirmed himself to be the first Indonesian to become the world champion of FIM Supersport 300 World Championship or WorldSSP300.

He secured the title after finishing sixth in Race 2 at the Spain round at the Jerez Circuit which closes the 2024 season on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

"This is amazing is my dream. When I was a child, I wanted to race here because I saw my brother race here. So, I want to be like him," said Aldi, quoted from Crash.

The brother in question by Aldi is Galang Hendra Pratama, who is also the winner of the WorldSSP300 race. Galang is one of his rivals this year in the Niti Racing ProGP team.

Aldi, who is 18 years old and comes as a rookie, won a total of one win and eight podiums. He achieved success with a collection of 221 points or 21 points ahead of his Dutch rival, Loris Veneman.

The WorldSSP300 title shows Aldi's rise in the World Superbike racing event after last season's runner-up at the R3 BLU cRU Championship. At that time, he won five wins and seven podiums from 12 races.

"It was extraordinary for me and my family. I am very happy. I am the first Indonesian to become world champion. It's amazing," said Aldi.

FIM Supersport 300 World Championship is a motorcycle race supporting the super bike series. Racing at this level uses a mass production motorbike.

WorldSSP300 started in 2017. This race was held as a stepping stone for young riders to appear in the Superbike higher class.
