Inter Milan Rise To Second Place Approaching Napoli After Defeating AS Roma

JAKARTA - Inter Milan won an important 1-0 victory over host AS Roma in the Italian Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Monday, October 21, 2024 in the morning WIB. The victory made Inter move up to second place and close to the leaders of the Napoli standings.

Inter had to work hard against Roma who also showed their best performance in front of their own supporters. Even Roma didn't really deserve to lose even though they ended up losing points in home games.

Victory over Roma made Inter move up to second place past Juventus while maintaining competition with Napoli at the top of the standings with 19 points.

Meanwhile, Roma failed to maintain consistency. Coach Ivan Juric, who replaces Daniele De Rossi, has not fully improved the Giallorossi performance. Of the last five matches in various competitions, Roma only won once against Venezia 2-1.

Likewise in the Europa League, Roma have not been able to win for two matches after being detained by Athletic Bilbao 1-1 and then losing 1-0 against Elfsborg. Before facing Inter, Lorenzo Pellegrini et al were also only able to draw 1-1 against Monza.

Bad results in domestic competition made Roma never improve the ranking. The capital team is still struggling in the middle board. Roma are ranked 10th with 10 points. The same as Empoli, but Roma are still ahead of goal difference.

In that match, both teams attacked each other so they had a chance to score. But Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar and rival Yann Sommer made a brilliant appearance.

Goalkeepers from the two teams made a number of brilliant saves together. This keeps both teams in a 0-0 draw until the end of the first half.

Inter actually had a chance to take the lead when Denzel Dumfries had a good chance. It's just that his efforts were brilliantly thwarted by Svilar's one hand. Meanwhile Sommer thwarted Matias Soule's chances.

Inter finally broke the deadlock when striker Lautaro Martinez beat Svilar in the 60th minute. This was the only goal set up in that game.

Inter Simone Inzaghi coach showed satisfaction with the victory that was achieved with success. "Roma is a strong team and has quality. But the players showed their best performance," said Inzaghi.

"In the first half the game went well. In the second half, we had two or three chances to increase the advantage. And, we should have been able to make sure the win was earlier," he said.

Meanwhile, Juric stated that Roma continued to play well even though they ended up losing. According to him, Inter's goal was created by chance.

"I didn't like the team's performance during the first 15 minutes. But we ended up playing better until finally the goal was created," said Juric.

"The goal was actually just a coincidence. But we had to pay dearly for that goal. We had to play more effectively in the next game," he said.
