New Organization Becomes The Solution For Indonesia's Table Tennis Dualism

Menpora Dito Ariteedjo will form a new table tennis federation to end the dualism of management (doc. Kemenpora).

The new organization as the main parent of table tennis in Indonesia will soon be formed as a middle ground for dualism within the Indonesian Table Tennis Association (PTMSI).

This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, at a press conference of the Indonesian Sports Arbitration Agency (BAKI) on Friday, October 18, 2024, at noon.

"Later, a new organization that has been approved by the two federations will be created," said Dito Ariotedjo at the Kemenpora Office, Senayan, Jakarta.

Dualism in the management of PTMSI has surfaced since 2013 or more than a decade. This issue has had a negative impact on the coaching of table tennis athletes.

The two camps are the PTMSI Executive Board led by General Chair Peter Lay and the PTMSI Central Executive, which is now controlled by Komjen Pol. (Ret.) Oegroseno.

In addition to the impact of coaching, this problem made the table tennis sport absent in two editions of the SEA Games, respectively in 2019 and 2021. The sports then returned to appear at the 2023 SEA Games.

Dito ensured that each leader had met him and agreed to form a new federation.

"Later on in its formation, we will prioritize stakeholders, how we involve these clubs and all potentials in the regions. The problem does not reach the arbitration process or dispute (more)," he said.

Dito previously invited the two general chairmen to his home in 2023 before table tennis returned to compete in the SEA Games.

During the meeting, they discussed the normalization of the Indonesian table tennis federation which was carried out in accordance with applicable regulations to end the long sentence.
