JAKARTA - Lee Carsley has confirmed that he does not want the position of England's national team manager permanently.

He instead wanted to return to England U-21 after the defeat of the Three Lions 1-2 to Greece in the UEFA Nations League on Friday, October 11, 2024, early morning WIB.

The 50-year-old has been a temporary manager of the Three Lions since Gareth Southgate stepped down in July 2024 following a second consecutive defeat in the Euro final.

The FA is currently looking for a permanent Southgate replacement who is most likely to be Carsley.

However, Carsley seems to have decided that that would not happen.

"I was surprised after the last training camp (ask) the job (British permanent manager) belonged to me. However, I will lose him".

"My job is to follow three camps (senior teams) and then hope to return to the U-21 team," he said.

After being pressed for the reason, Carsley said he was more comfortable being in the U-21 team. He has no enthusiasm and passion for the England national team at the senior level.

To be honest, Carsley admits his capacity is not yet for the England national team. Too much pressure because the Three Lions are always supported by the title in world's top tournaments.

"I said earlier that I would not rule myself out. It still applies. I feel more than comfortable with my current position."

"His job is clear. I feel comfortable and confident with it. After the first camp (with the England national team), I clearly wasn't too excited or too confident."

"I'm well aware that this job is one of the best in the world when it comes to you really having a chance to win."

"Obviously, I talked about it after losing, but in terms of major tournaments, it still applies," Carlsey said as reported by The Sun.

However, the FA (British Football Federation) still relies on Carsley's England national team for the next few UEFA Nations League matches.

Nearby, the Three Lions will travel to Finland's headquarters in a similar event on October 13, 2024.

Carsley also acted professionally. As long as there is no mandate from the federation, he is still on duty as usual.

The 50-year-old manager has overseen the match of the Republic of Ireland vs Finland.

"Nothing has changed from what I said in the first press conference. I think this is a fantastic job. I'm lucky to have a good job in terms of the England U-21 national team."

"However, as I said, after the first camp, when we won two games and had two very good performances, my ambition didn't change."

"I think it's important for me to give everything for the next three games."

"I am very happy and comfortable in terms of the communication I have with my superiors. So, nothing has changed in that regard," said Carsley.

This year, England still has three remaining matches in the UEFA Nations League. After visiting Finland, Jude Bellingham and colleagues will travel to Greece and host the Republic of Ireland in November 2024.
