2024 MotoGP Temporary Standings: Jorge Martin Is Strong At The Top

JAKARTA Jorge Martin is getting stronger at the top of the 2024 MotoGP standings after he finished runners-up at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend.

The Spaniard who defended the Prima Pramac Racing team finished trailing Enea Bastianini in a race at the Misano Circuit, Italy, on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Bastianini became the fastest in 27 rounds with a time of 41 minutes 14,653 seconds. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin finished with a time gap of +5.002 seconds from the Ducati Lenovo Team rider.

Prior to that, Martin also performed well when competing in the Sprint Race. Despite making a mistake, he was able to finish the session in second place, following Francesco Bagnaia in pole position.

GP race Emilia Romagna actually left controversy. You see, Bastianini is considered to have carried out aggressive maneuvers while overtaking Jorge Martin on the last lap.

However, the MotoGP refused to carry out further investigations into the matter. This decision drew cons, including from Marc Marquez.

Marquez argues that Bastianini should be punished for his actions. The reason is, such maneuvers are very detrimental to opponents on track.

In this race, Marquez, who has six MotoGP world titles, finished third. Jorge Martin's compatriot finished with a time difference of +7.848 seconds from the front rider.

These two satisfying results from the race and Sprint Race keep Jorge Martin away at the top of the standings. He now has a total of 341 points and is further ahead of Bagnaia in second place.

Bagnaia failed to add points in this latest race. The Italian racer returned empty-handed due to falling at Turn 8 when the race left seven rounds and could not continue the race.

The next MotoGP series will take place at the Mandalika Circuit, Indonesia, on Sunday, September 29, 2024. There are still five Grand Prixs in total after that, namely Japan, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Valencia.
