JAKARTA The woodball sports (sports) have successfully made their debut at the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 National Sports Week (PON) which will be closed on Friday, September 20, 2024, tonight WIB.

A total of 114 athletes from 16 provinces fell in seven events contested at the Lampuuk Golf Course, Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar, on September 14-19 2024.

Chairman of the Indonesia Woodball Association (IWbA), Aang Sunadji, said that the holding of woodball at the 2024 PON automatically became a historical record for the sport.

"Hopefully this can be a motivation for the woodball community in Indonesia to continue to introduce this sport more broadly and provide the highest achievement for Indonesia in the world arena," said Aang.

The seven events contested at PON 2024 are the men's-daughter fairway team, double mix fairway, men's-daughter single stroke, and the men's-daughter double stroke.

Central Java managed to come out as the overall champion with three gold and four bronze medals. Banten followed in second place through two gold, two silver, and one bronze. Then, Aceh was in third place with two gold medals.

Furthermore, Bali won in a row with two silvers and one bronze and West Java with one silver and one bronze to complete the top five.

The sixth and seventh positions in the standings are occupied by East Java and DKI Jakarta which both get one silver.

"I also have to give high appreciation to all parties who made awoodball debut at the 2024 PON to be successful. Athletes, coaches, jury referees, organizing committees, and of course the Central KONI has given us the opportunity to be able to hold this well," said Aang.

IWbA will then try to get the woodball to be competed again in PON XXII-2028 NTT-NTB. Aang said that realizing this requires commitment and hard work from all parties.

"Hopefully not only in PON, but woodball can also be a sport that is competed in the 2025 SEA Games Thailand. Of course, if that happens, woodball can provide the best achievements for Indonesia," he said.
