China Open 2024: Ginting Bend Chico

Anthony Ginting stepped into the second round of the 2024 China Open after defeating Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting stepped into the second round of the 2024 China Open after successfully stopping his compatriot, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

Ginting hopes that in this Super 1000 BWF level event, after winning two straight games 21-18 and 21-17 at the Olympic Sport Center Gymantium, China, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at noon WIB.

"Today's match was quite tight against Chico. The score was a chase, even though the distance between points was far superior or far behind, they were both not desperate," Ginting said in a statement.

The duel was the second competitive clash between the two men's singles. Previously, at the first meeting in 2022 at the Malaysia Masters, their duel was won by Chico.

Anthony said that although he rarely met on the tournament stage, he and Chico already knew each other's game because they were both at the PBSI Cipayung training camp (Pelatnas).

"We already know each other's strengths and weaknesses. So, earlier the difference was only the use of the right strategy in dealing with conditions in the field," he said.

Furthermore, Ginting will meet the first seed host of China, Shi Yuqi. The fight will be the 12th clash between them.

Pada 11 kali pertemuan sebelumnya, Shi Yuqi tercatat punya kemenangan paling banyak. Pemain yang saat ini menempati peringkat satu dunia tersebut memimpin rekor kemenang-kalah 9-2.

At the 2024 China Open, Indonesia deployed a total of 10 representatives. This number consists of three men's singles, one women's singles, five men's doubles, and one mixed double.
