Boccia Panen Medal At The Paris 2024 Paralympics

JAKARTA Four Indonesian boccia athletes who got tickets to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympics have all managed to harvest medals.

This assurance was obtained after the BC1/BC2 team number contributed one silver medal on Thursday, September 5, 2024. The Red-White contingent had to settle for the second podium after losing 6-7 in the final round against China.

In this team number, Indonesia, which relies on Gischa Zayana, Felix Ardi Yudha, and Muhammad Afrizal Syafa, made a surprise by eliminating the United Kingdom in the quarter-finals and Japan in the semifinals.

The three names then met Qi Zhang, Zhiqiang Yan, and Zhijian Lan, in the final party. They were stuck at the beginning of the game so they fell behind with a score of 0-7.

Indonesia then struggled to reduce the position in the last two chances by taking six points. Unfortunately, the struggle ended with only one point difference.

The head coach of boccia Indonesia, Islahuzzaman Nur Yadin, said that the defeat was because the opponent was able to take advantage of the situation well at the beginning of the game.

"We lost narrowly to China. They can take advantage of the situation, better prepared from the start of the game. We can catch up to the end, but we can only get six points," said Islah.

This additional one silver earned Indonesia a medal in four events followed by the boccia team. In detail, Islah's team pocketed two silvers and two bronzes.

Islah hopes that Indonesia can talk again at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He said that the boccia team will travel around Indonesia to look for new potential athletes who will be relied on in the next four years.

"Hopefully at the Los Angeles Paralympics, we can qualify with more athletes to be able to participate in other numbers. There are many numbers in boccia, but we only participated in four numbers. The four numbers we participated in all received medals," said Islah.

In addition to the three names above, another boccia athlete who got a ticket to Paris was Muhammad Bintang Stria Herlangga. He contributed one piece of BC2 men's individual silver medal.
