Indonesia Officially Chosen To Host WAG 2025

The signing of the MoU between NPC Indonesia and World Abilitysport for the host WAG 2025 (doc. NPC Indonesia).

JAKARTA Indonesia was officially elected to host the 2025 World Abilitysport Games (AWG).

Memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed in Paris, France, Friday, August 30, 2024. The World Abilitysport Games is a multi-pronged sport for athletes with physical obstacles.

This event was previously known as IWAS World Games which only involved wheelchair and amputee users (magnetized people). This name change was made two years ago when Thailand was appointed to host the 2023 edition.

World Abilitysport president Rudi van den Abbele said that Indonesia was chosen as the host because it showed rapid progress in sporting events with disabilities.

"Indonesia is a newcomer to the Paralympic world, but Indonesia's progress is so fast. We are very confident in trusting Indonesia as the organizer of the 2025 World Abilitysport Games," said Rudi.

Indonesia, which has experience in holding various sports with disabilities, previously volunteered to host the 2025 World Abilitysprot Games.

This interest was also welcomed positively by World Abilitysport as the organization that organizes the World Abilitysport Games.

The MoU between the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the World Abilitysport in Paris is a marker that Indonesia has been officially appointed as the host.

The MoU between NPC Indonesia and World Abilitysport was carried out after representatives from the organization based in the UK checked 14 sports venues and one athlete guesthouse in DKI Jakarta in July 2024.

World Abilitysport has a year to promote this activity around the world. World Abilitysport Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Charmaine Total, believes this event is more interesting with new names and brands.

"We are looking positively that this activity will attract at least 60 countries. There is still one more year. We will try to promote the 2025 World Abilitysport Games," saidmad.

Chairman of the Indonesian NPC, Senny Marbun, then emphasized Indonesia's readiness to hold the 2025 World Abilitysport Games. Indonesia has always been successful in holding multi-event sports with disabilities

"Indonesia, if it is appointed as the host, is always extraordinary. The country that is most responsible when it hosts, it has been proven," said Senny.

Indonesia proved successful when holding the 1986 FESPIC Games and the 2011 and 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Solo. Indonesia also had great success when holding the 2018 Asian Para Games in DKI Jakarta.

This series of successes made World Abilitysport give confidence in Indonesia to host the 2025 World Abilitysport Games.
