Harry Kane Wins European Golden Boot Award 2023/2024

JAKARTA - Harry Kane received the European Golden Boot 2023/2024 award at an event at the Allianz Arena.

The England captain earned the title after his brilliant performance with a score of 36 goals which made him Europe's top scorer in the 2023/2024 season.

Kane scored his last goal last season when Bayern Munich lost 1-3 against VfB Stuttgart in the 32nd week. The closing goal of the season saw him well ahead of players like Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lautaro Martinez.

Another encouraging news for the Bundesliga is the appearance of VfB star Stuttgart, Serhou Guirassy, who is just below Kane with 28 goals.

"It's a fantastic feeling. I can only thank the club and teammates. This award is for everyone. Without you, I wouldn't stand here," Kane said on the Bundesliga website.

"Joining Bayern Munich is one of the best decisions of my life," he said again.

European Golden Boots were introduced by French media L'Equipe, in 1967/1968. However, it has been provided by European Sports Media (ESM) since 1997.

Two Bundesliga players have previously received the award. Both are Bayern Munich, Gerd Muller (1969/1970 and 1971/1972) and Robert Lewandowski (2020/2021 and 2021/2022).

Now, Kane has imitated his predecessors at the Munich club by scoring an average of one goal every 79 minutes in the Bundesliga. Apart from Kane and Guirassy, the top five on the list include Leipzig striker Lois Openda with 24 goals.

Openda shared fifth position with Inter Milan strikers Lautaro Martinez and Artem Dovbyk from Girona.

The winner of the award last year was former Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who scored 36 goals for Manchester City.

"It is said that in one breath with these names it is very special. The most important thing is how I can help the team and the club," Kane said.

"I'm feeling new energy and I can't wait to see where it's going," Kane said welcoming the new season.
