Korea Open 2024: Two Indonesian Representatives Left, All Men's Doubles

Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin made it to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Three Indonesian representatives fought in the round of 16 on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Two of the representatives were men's doubles, the other was mixed doubles.

Mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati performed their first today against the South Korean pair, Kim Wo-ho/Jeong Na-eun.

Rehan/Lisa can secure the first set with a 21-19 advantage. They can take the lead until the interval after the 2-2 draw.

After the break, the fight got fiercer. The two couples chased after numbers. However, Rehan/Lisa managed to keep their focus on critical points at 19-19.

They finally got two points in a row to secure the first set.

However, the anticlimax occurred in the second set. Rehan/Lisa had to give up the second set taken by Kim/Jeong by a long margin 10-21.

In the determination set, Rehan/Lisa can rediscover their touch. They are noted to be able to take the lead after the 2-2 draw.

However, Kim/Jeong managed to catch up by equalizing 18-18. A dramatic duel ensued.

Chasing numbers caused the pace. Rehan/Lisa had a game point at 21-20, but the South Korean doubles equalized again.

Next, Kim/Jeong can go forward to get two points in a row to win the round of 16.

In another match, Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana can get past the Malaysian doubles, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub/Tan Wee Kiong easily.

Leo/Bagas won easily two straight games with a score of 21-17 and 21-11.

Furthermore, Leo/Bagas will face South Korean doubles in the quarter-finals, namely Choi Sol-gyu/Heo Kwang-hee.

The Indonesian representatives who last appeared today were the men's doubles Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin. They met the Chinese Taipei pair, Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee.

Fikri/Daniel got fierce resistance from their opponents. They had time to secure the first game with a tight score of 21-19.

However, in the second set they had to admit the superiority of Fang-Chih/Fang-Jen with a score of 15-21.

Luckily in the final set, Fikri/Daniel can rise. They won with a convincing score of 21-16 to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals, Fikri/Daniel faced a strong double second seed from China, He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu.
