The Indonesian Volleyball National Team Is Battered In The 2024 SEA V League, Pushes To Change PBVSI Management Strengthening

The Indonesian Men's Volleyball Team won runners-up in the 2024 SEA V League (doc. PBVSI).

JAKARTA - Men's 2024 SEA V League Second Series has closed this series of volleyball tournaments throughout Southeast Asia. The last match was the match against Indonesia vs Thailand at GOR UNY, Yogyakarta, on Sunday, August 25, 2024, night WIB.

Thailand came out as champions after overthrowing Indonesia 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 22-25, and 28-26).

The defeat made coach Li Qiujiang's team only ranked second in the final standings with a collection of five points. The same achievement as the First Series last week in Manila, Philippines.

While the victory over Indonesia made Thailand collect nine points and again won the title. Previously, in the First Series, they also managed to come out as champions.

From the two series of the 2024 SEA V League, Thailand was recorded as not inferior in six matches. In addition, they also only lost a set against Indonesia in the last match of the Second Series.

In addition to getting trophies and medals, Thailand also received a prize money of 16 thousand dollars or Rp264 million. Meanwhile, Indonesia as runner-up received 13 thousand dollars or Rp200 million.

In a row, the Philippines' third rank brought home 11 thousand dollars (Rp169 million) and Vietnam's fourth place pocketed 10 thousand dollars or the equivalent of Rp154 million.

For individual titles, Indonesia gets two titles. Dio Zulfikri as Best Setter and Best Outset Hitter was brought home by Farhan Halim with Michaelo Buddin from the Philippines. Then, the Best Player or MVP was won by Napadeth Binijdee from Thailand.

In fact, for the men's sector, Indonesia controlled the SEA V League in the first two series last year.

The failure of Indonesia to become the champion continues the track record for the Indonesian Volleyball national team minor. Previously in the 2024 Women's SEA V League, Indonesia was even worse off. The Indonesian Women's Volleyball national team was only the caretaker in the two series without a win.

The record extends the journey without the Indonesian title in the Women's SEA V League since it was first held in 2019. At best, the Women's Volleyball Team won runners-up in the two 2019 edition series.

The achievement of being the caretaker is also the first for the Indonesian Women's Volleyball National Team, especially twice in a row in the same year.

"THE FOOTBALL OF TEN IS AT ITS LEVEL, THE VOLLEY OF THE GENERATOR HAS DECREASED ITS LEVEL," wrote a volleyball lover comparing it with football.

"It's a sport if the police are holding it, for example, Surabaya and Samator are not good enough, at the Ama bhayangkara margin, now the Samator players are withdrawn to Bhayangkara, finally the same as Amburadul," reads the opinion of the volleyball connoisseur.

"Just suggest, my friends, if our voices are not heard, go directly to a powerful method, boycott the volleyball league in Indonesia directly, rich in proliga, etc., immediately make it quiet, so that you realize, why do you want to pay but the Federation is dilapidated, if the sound has been heard and the system is fixed, everything is checked, just watch it back, as long as it's still like this, it's just quiet," wrote the fan calling for a boycott.

Actually, there are still many aspirations from Indonesian volleyball fans. They seem to have been hot with the PBVSI leadership being inhabited that's all.

Instead of increasing Indonesia's volleyball achievement at the international level, the name Merah-White has actually fallen.

Just look at the 2024 calendar that has been undertaken. The Indonesian volleyball, which should have the title of the Southeast Asian King, is even sluggish.

Disappointment began to emerge when the Indonesian Volleyball Team never appeared at maximum conditions at the international level.

For example, in the AVC Challenge Cup 2024, Indonesia even dispatched a team dominated by junior players without any experienced players.

In fact, the AVC Challenge Cup is the path to the FIVB Challenger Cup which is the qualification for the VNL (Volleyball Nations League).

The Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team was battered at the AVC Challenge Cup 2024 by only placing 11th.

Then, the Indonesian Women's Volleyball Team had three moneys. They are only in seventh place.

In such an important event, PBVSI was trivial in matters of lowering the squad. As a result, the door to VNL has been closed tightly.

You see, in the coming years there will be no more tickets to VNL through the Challenge Cup. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will implement promotions for world-ranked countries.

This means that the Challenge Cup event towards the last VNL will be held this year.

In addition, PBVSI argued that the absence of experienced senior players in the Challenge Cup was due to the schedule of clashes with the 2024 Proliga.

This also shows that PBVSI cannot arrange a good league schedule to synergize with the agenda of the Indonesian Volleyball Team.

No wonder, the schedule for the training camp for the Indonesian Volleyball national team also fell apart even though it was a clich issue.

Most recently, the Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team was only a training camp less than two weeks before competing in the 2024 SEA V League. It was worse for the Indonesian Women's Volleyball National Team to only train for two days to prepare for a similar event.

The public seems to be furious with the current PBVSI management even though General Chair Imam Sudjarwo promised to fix the schedule.

"Earlier we had a meeting. We took (national) ones such as Proliga. They are advancing from January to May 2025."

"After June 2025, it was an international match, such as AVC Challenge, then there was the SEA V League, there were other events."

"There are five international events that we will hold in the future, a team of five sons and a team of four (events) daughters."

"So with such arrangements, hopefully the effectiveness of preparation for longer training will be carried out," said Imam after the 2024 SEA V League event.

The chairman of PBVSI further let go of the existing problems.

"Yesterday it was not our fault because the notification was late so Proliga resigned to avoid the fasting month."

"Well, before the Proliga fasting month, we had spent it in the preliminary round. After fasting it was Final Four and Grand Final."

"So we have no more problems in managing the schedule," he said.

Imam Sudjarwo has said. The public of Indonesian volleyball lovers have the right to ask for promises. Moreover, the chairman of PBVSI floated the target of the 2025 SEA Games gold medal.

"I am very optimistic that in the SEA Games our opponents are only Thailand. We already know their weaknesses. We still can."

"We still have young people, we combine them with this (team in the SEA V League). For example, later we can still (gold) the fourth time, later we will take it," he said.

As is known, the Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team won three consecutive gold medals at the previous SEA Games.

Last year's achievement was also fairly slick by breaking into the AVC Challenge Cup final in the women's sector. However, this year it has actually declined and the public sees PBVSI's lack of seriousness in taking care of Indonesian volleyball.
