Japan Open 2024: Leo/Bagas Qualify For Semifinals

JAKARTA The men's doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana secured the second semifinal ticket for Indonesia at the Japan Open 2024.

They extended their journey in this tournament after winning two straight games 21-15 and 21-12 against the Japanese pair, Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura, on Friday, August 23, 2024, WIB night.

"Grateful to be able to win and advance to the semifinals. This result is our first semifinal as a new partner. This result can also add to the new spirit," said Leo.

Leo/Bagas selanjutnya akan berhadapan dengan wakil Malaysia, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin. Pasangan ini mencapai semifinal usai mengalahkan wakil Indonesia, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

While still paired with Daniel Marthin, Leo was recorded as having never beaten Goh/Nur in their two competitive clashes. Meanwhile, Bagas when he was still paired with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri had a 2-2 winning-loss record against the pair.

"Tomorrow (24/8/2024) in the semifinals against the Malaysian doubles, previously Daniel and I and Mas Bagas/Fikri have also met them. We will be ready," said Leo.

Before Leo/Bagas, one semifinal ticket for Indonesia had been secured by the pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Mathin.

The two men's doubles pairs are Indonesia's last hope in the tournament. Fajar/Rian are the newest representatives to fall following the previous seven who had already picked up their suitcases.

The semifinals will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The series of matches will start at 10.00 Japanese time or 12.00 western Indonesia time.
