Japan Open 2024: Men's Doubles Become Indonesia's Backbone

Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin followed the other two Indonesian men's doubles to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Indonesian men's doubles dominated the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2024 by placing as many as three representatives in that phase.

The latest ticket was obtained by the pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin after defeating Chinese representatives Taipei, Fang Chih Lee/Fang Jen Lee, two straight games 21-16 and 21-12 on Thursday, August 22, 2024, afternoon WIB.

"I am grateful to be able to win and advance to the last eight. The match was also not easy," said Fikri.

This result made Fikri/Daniel follow their two colleagues, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana, who had already passed.

Fajar/Rian got a ticket after stopping the Malaysian pair, CHOng Hon Jian/Muhammad Haikal. Meanwhile, Leo/Bagas stopped their compatriot, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

The three men's doubles representatives in the quarter-finals are the most compared to other countries. Following in second place with the most representatives is Malaysia, which has two pairs.

In the quarter-finals, Friday, August 23, 2024, Fikri/Daniel will face Chinese representatives, Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi. The pair reached the last eight after stopping seventh seed from China Taipei, Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan.

"Facing tomorrow's match, we also have to be better prepared. Look confident. No less important, communication in the field is maintained," said Fikri.

The success of the men's doubles failed to be followed by the men's singles Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo and mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

Most recently, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, who is the only single daughter, also died.

This means that Indonesia no longer has representatives of the men's singles, women's singles, and mixed doubles numbers in the BWF Super 750 level tournament.

Indonesia just has to hope that the men's doubles sector can bring home the title from the Japan Open 2024.
