Japan Open 2024: 7 Indonesian Representatives In The Round Of 16

Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati are the only Indonesian mixed doubles left in the round of 16 of the Japan Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA A total of seven Indonesian representatives managed to secure tickets to the second round of the Japan Open 2024. This number is relatively large considering that Indonesia sent 10 representatives to the tournament.

The series of first round matches of the Super 750 BWF tournament which took place at the Yokohama Arena were all completed on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, WIB night. The last two representatives of Indonesia who played today all passed.

The two latest tickets for Indonesia were obtained by the men's doubles pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and the women's singles badminton player Ester Nurumi Triwardoyo.

Fikri/Daniel qualified for the round of 16 after eliminating the Chinese Taipei pair,manfaat Chien-Wei/Wu Hsuan-Yi, in the match of two straight games 21-19 and 21-19.

Fikri/Daniel's success in making the men's doubles number has four representatives in the second half. The other three are Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, and Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.

One of the four representatives will certainly die tomorrow because Leo/Bagas and Sabar/Reza face off. This automatically means that Indonesia already has one ticket for the quarter-finals in the men's doubles.

The Fajar/Rian pair will meet representatives of Malaysia, CHOng Hon Jian/Muhammad Haikal. Then, Fikri/Daniel dueled with the Chinese Taipei pair, Fang Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee.

Meanwhile, Ester reached the second half after stopping Thailand's singles, Pornpicha Choekeewong. He then met another Thai single, namely Supanida Katethong.

The other two Indonesian representatives who managed to get through the first round were the mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati and the men's singles Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

Rehan/Naufal will then be tested by the sixth seed Hong Kong, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet. Meanwhile Chico faced the French men's singles, Alex Lanier.

Meanwhile, the other three representatives had already lifted their suitcases in the first half. They are Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
