Japan Open 2024: Chico Jaga Asa Tunggal Putra

Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo stepped into the last 16 of the Japan Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo maintains the hope of the Indonesian men's singles sector by qualifying for the second round of the Japan Open 2024.

The badminton player from Papua secured a ticket after winning two straight games 21-19 and 21-17 over the French single, Arnaud Merkle, at the Yokohama Arena, Japan, Tuesday, August 20, 2024, afternoon WIB.

Chico said that his success in maximizing his strategy made him able to control the game well to overcome his opponent.

"To get points, I'm not easy either. I've been applying the strategy from the start to try to attract opponents."

"I'm not in a hurry to attack because I know the opponent also has a good defense. So, I have to complain there first," he said.

Chico is the only Indonesian men's singles left in this Super 750 BWF level tournament from two representatives sent.

Previously, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's one men's singles had already been eliminated. He had an ankle problem and had to withdraw from the tournament.

Furthermore, Chico returned to meet another French representative, namely Alex Lanier. Alex himself reached the second half after repatriating Malaysia's sixth seed, Lee Zii Jia.

"This is my first meeting. I will try to see the video footage of the game and how to play against him. I will see the video to make it clearer how the strategy is to deal with it," he said.

Chico is the second representative of Indonesia to reach the round of 16. One ticket was previously secured by the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
