Jokowi Officially Hands Over Bonuses For 2024 Olympic Athletes

President Jokowi officially gave bonuses to Paris 2024 Olympic athletes (doc. Kemenpora).

JAKARTA President Joko Widodo officially handed over bonuses to medal-winning athletes and those who did not get medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The handover of bonuses was symbolically carried out by Joko Widodo at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 15, 2024, morning WIB. Athletes and coaches head to the Palace in a procession from the office of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).

Jokowi was accompanied by the Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy when handing over the bonus.

"First, I would like to express my gratitude and the highest appreciation from the Indonesian nation to athletes who have fought hard at the 2024 Olympics and give great pride to the Indonesian nation and people," Jokowi said in his remarks.

Rizki Juniansyah and Veddriq Leonardo who won gold medals in Paris were present and received direct appreciation from the government along with bronze winner Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Rock climbing coach Hendra Basir and weightlifting coach Triyatno were also present. Meanwhile, athletes shot Fathur Gustafian and gymnastics coach Eva Butar Butar became representatives of athletes and coaches without medals.

"This achievement raises optimism and raises the hopes of other Indonesian athletes to compete to score better achievements in other international events," said Jokowi.

The government has prepared bonuses for two gold winners in the amount of Rp. 6 billion and Rp. 1.65 billion each for bronze medalists.

The figure is IDR 2.75 billion for gold-winning coaches, IDR 675 million for bronze coaches, and IDR 250 million for each athlete and coach who does not get a medal.

The achievement of these two gold medals in Paris repeats Indonesia's success at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Two gold medals in one Olympics are still Indonesia's best achievements in the history of participating in the world's largest multi-events.

These two gold medals actually missed Indonesia's target, who left for France with ambitions to pass the previous best record at Barcelona.
