Indonesia Failed To Meet Targets At The 2024 Olympics

JAKARTA Indonesia did not meet the target at the 2024 Paris Olympics even though it successfully brought home two gold medals and one bronze medal to the country.

The Paris 2024 Olympics, which opened on July 26, 2024, just ended at the closing ceremony on Monday, August 12, 2024, early morning WIB or Sunday, August 11, 2024, Paris time.

Indonesia completed its journey in the world's largest multi-event in 39th position in the final or second best standings from Southeast Asian countries to follow the Philippines in 37th position, which has two gold and two bronze medals.

The success of bringing home these two gold medals made Indonesia succeed in repeating the same success at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Spain.

The record of two gold medals in one edition of the Olympics is still Indonesia's most successful achievement in the history of participating in this four-year event.

The difference is, these two gold medals this year are contributed by sports (sports) outside badminton. This is the first time in Indonesian history to be able to get gold, not from this flagship sport.

Despite successfully repeating history, Indonesia still did not meet one of the two targets brought to Paris. One target that failed to materialize was to bring home more than two gold medals to pass records at Barcelona.

This target was expressed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari, in January 2024.

"Our shared aspiration is to make history from medals. Previously there were at most two gold medals, this time we had more than two potentials," said Okto at the time.

Another target that has been achieved is to get a gold medal from sports other than badminton. As a result, two gold medals each from weightlifting and rock climbing branches.

As is known, the gold medal from weightlifting was contributed by lifter Rizki Juniansyah, while the other was obtained by Veddriq Leonardo from the men's speed rock climbing.

Meanwhile, one bronze medal was secured by Indonesia through the women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who was the junior world champion in 2017.
