Lazio Dictator Benito Mussolini's Great-grandson Bound For 3 Years

JAKARTA - The great-grandson of the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini has signed his first professional contract with Serie A team Lazio.

Romano Floriani Mussolini, 18, was called up to join the Rome-based club's Under-19 side in February and featured in four of Lazio's last five games for a three-year contract.

The young man Alessandra Mussolini, who is a former member of the European parliament from the Forza Italia Party, posted a photo of himself signing a contract on his Instagram page where he wrote his name with Romano Floriani.

"I am delighted to have signed my first professional contract with Lazio and spent three more years in this shirt," he wrote as quoted by Antara from the ESPN website.

Floriani Mussolini is the third child of Alessandra Mussolini and Mauro Floriani, and is the great-grandson of Benito Mussolini who was prime minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943 after the fascist coup.

The defender is in his final year at St George's British International School in Rome which is located close to Lazio's training center.

Floriani Mussolini distanced himself from politics. "Here at Lazio I am only judged by the way I play and open because my last name is Mussolini," he told the newspaper Il Messaggero.

A small fraction of Lazio's fanatical supporters called "ultras" have been associated with the far right and have a history of fascist behavior.
