Bernard Van Aert Failed, Indonesia Just Hopes For Nurul Akmal At The 2024 Olympics

Bernard van Aert failed to present a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics (doc. NOC Indonesia).

JAKARTA - The only Indonesian cyclist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Bernard van Aert, has certainly failed to donate medals.

Bernard appeared in the men's omnium track bike race which was held at the Velodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, WIB night.

The omnium number features four different types of races that are held in one day. The four include the screen race (40 laps), the tempo race (40 laps), the elimination race, and the points race.

There were 22 participants who appeared in the omnium number. Each rider collected the best points in the four races.

Bernard van Aert only finished the screen race in 18th place and won six points. The host, Thomas Benjamin, managed to finish first.

Then, at the tempo of the race, Bernard van Arent, the leader continued to decline by finishing in 20th position and winning two points. The tempo race was won by Belgian racer Fabio van den Bossche.

Bernard's appearance has not improved in the elimination race. He was immediately eliminated in the first lap after becoming the last rider and only packing one point. Ethan Hayter of Great Britain who dominated the elimination race.

Finally, Bernard van Aert finished 20th in the points race and got -40. Thomas Benjamin came out as the winner of the points race.

As a result, Thomas Benjamin's points became the best among other riders with a total of 164 points and was entitled to a gold medal.

Leitao Iuri (Portugal) won a silver medal with a total of 153 points, followed by Fabio van den Bossche (Belgium) who won bronze with 131 points.

Meanwhile, Bernard van Aert finished in 20th place in the standings with 31 points, only ahead of Ricardo Pena Salas (Mexico) and Youssef Abouelhassan (Egypt).

Bernard's failure means that Indonesia just has to hope for lifter Nurul Akmal to add a medal collection at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Nurul will drop in the +81 kg class which will be held on the closing day of the 2024 Paris Olympics, 11 August 2024.

Performance in Paris 2024 is Nurul's second Olympics. The 31-year-old lifter's debut took place at the 2024 Tokyo Olympics.

At that time he appeared in the +87 kg class and finished fifth. He made a total lift of 256 kg (115 kg snatch and 141 clean & jerk).
