Rock Climbing Of The 2024 Olympics: Veddriq Secures Place In Quarter-finals

JAKARTA Indonesian rock climbing athlete, Veddriq Leonardo, managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the men's speed number for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Veddriq started his journey in Paris on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, WIB night. He started the preliminary heats with a time of 4.79 seconds.

The record at that time made him equal to the world record belonging to the United States climber, Samuel Watson. However, the record was later broken again by Samuel at the elimination heats.

In the elimination round, Samuel Watson recorded a time of 4.75 seconds and was in first place. Meanwhile, Veddriq trailed second with a record best time of 4.79 seconds.

At the elimination heats, Veddriq faced his compatriot, Rahmad Adi Mulyono, who previously recorded a time of 5.07 seconds while taking lane B at the setting heats.

When taking lane A, Rahmad had to experience a false start. However, the time of 5.07 seconds on lane B managed to bring him to the elimination heats round.

At the elimination heats, Veddriq managed to beat Rahmad Adi with a time of 4.98 seconds. Meanwhile, Rahmad Adi finished this round with a time of 5.13 seconds.

Veddriq's move continued into the quarter-finals after his best record at setting heats 4.79 seconds was in second fastest place.

Rahmad Adi Mulyono's move had to be stopped because his best time at setting heats was 5.07 seconds shifted by Alipour Alireza's time record from Iran (5.06 seconds) at a setting heats when he took lane A.

Indonesia had previously succeeded in placing two women's speed representatives (Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Rajiah Salsabillah) in the quarter-finals.

The women's quarter-finals will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, while the men's number will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
