Two Important Moments In Gregoria's Bronze Medal Celebration

JAKARTA Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has two important moments close to the bronze medal celebrations she got at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The two moments are his 25th birthday on August 11, 2024 and the anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2024.

"This Medal also means a lot to me. This medal is a lot of effort from many people. This is also a birthday present for me next week and for Indonesia on August 17, 2024," said Gregoria.

Gregoria brought home a medal after making her second appearance at the Olympics. He previously made his debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Wonogiri badminton player stopped in the round of 16 after losing against Thailand's representative, Ratchanok Intanon.

"Hopefully this medal can spur me to achieve even more in the future. This is a big achievement in my career. So, hopefully with this medal I can win another championship title," said Gregoria.

Gregoria won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics without a match. This was due to an injury suffered by his potential opponent from Spain, Carolina Marin.

Marin could not appear in the bronze medal match after deciding to withdraw in the second game in the semifinal match against Chinese representative He Bing Jiao, on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

After the match, Gregoria admitted that she had met Carolina Marin and expressed her empathy for the injuries suffered by the 2016 Rio de Janero Olympic gold medalist.

"I hope he can continue his career in badminton. Hopefully his injury is not serious. Sorry also for what happened. Then, he congratulated me for this medal," said Gregoria.

Gregoria is the only representative of badminton that won a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics from six representatives who left there.

The other five representatives who returned empty-handed were Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
