The Indonesia Vs Australia Venue In The 2026 World Cup Qualification Is Still Tentative

The Indonesian national team will host Australia in the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team will face Australia in the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification in the Asian Zone. The match is planned to be held at the Gelora Bung Karno (SUGBK) Main Stadium, Senayan.

Previously, the meeting with Australia in Group C was planned to be held at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya, on September 10, 2024. The reason was, on the same date in SUGBK the arrival of Pope Francis.

It is known that Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Indonesia on September 3-6, 2024. Due to this situation, PSSI opened the discourse to hold the Indonesian national team match against Australia at the GBT Stadium.

However, with a tentative situation, Yunus revealed that until now the match between the Indonesian vs Australia national team is still scheduled for SUGBK.

The man who serves as PSSI Secretary General also explained that the final decision would be announced by Erick Thohir as PSSI General Chair (Ketum).

"Meanwhile, yes, it is still in Jakarta, in SUGBK. Later, Mr. Ketum will talk again," Yunus said in his statement quoted on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, Zainudin Amali explained that PSSI is still coordinating with the SUGBK management. So there is a possibility that the Indonesian national team home match in September 2024 will be played in Jakarta.

"At that time (why played in GBT) because there was a Pope's Sri. Now, the Secretary General is coordinating with the SUGBK. We can't confirm yet. The possibilities (playing in SUGBK) exist," said Amali.

The Indonesian national team will start their struggle in Group C of the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification in the Asian Zone against Saudi Arabia. The Garuda squad will travel to King Abdullah Sport City on September 5, 2024.

After that, then the Indonesian national team will host Australia. If the match is really held in SUGBK, of course it will be an advantage in itself because Rafael Struick and colleagues are used to appearing in the atmosphere of SUGBK.
