Marco Rossi Confirms Barnabas Varga Will Not Defend Hungary In The Remaining Euro 2024 Match

JAKARTA - Hungary can indeed reap three points with a 1-0 victory against Scotland in the last match of Group A at MHPArena, Monday, June 24, 2024, early morning WIB.

The victory opened up opportunities for Hungary to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024. However, the tripoin was not completely sweet.

Hungary's struggle to take the perfect point had to be marked by a heartbreaking incident when Barnabas Varga collapsed on the pitch.

He was hit by a Scottish goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, during an aerial duel. Varga then fell and was unconscious.

The incident left Hungarian players unable to hide their worries and tears, including captain Dominik Szoboszlai.

Luckily, the medical team quickly provided first aid and brought Varga by ambulance for further treatment. He is reportedly conscious and able to communicate well.

Marco Rossi, Hungarian coach, confirmed this. He also revealed in an interview after the match that Varga would undergo fracture surgery on his face.

In addition, Rossi also emphasized that Varga would miss the Euro 2024 continued match if Hungary had stepped into the knockout stages.

" Barnabas Varga's life is not in danger. He will undergo surgery after suffering a fracture in his face."

"He won't be able to play for the remainder of Euro 2024," Marco Rossi said, as reported by The Sun.

Varga is currently defending the club Ferencvaros who plays in Hungary's highest league. The 29-year-old striker has scored 13 appearances with Hungary and contributed seven goals.
