Indonesia Does Not Rule Out The Possibility Of Bringing Its Own AC To The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA The Indonesian contingent does not rule out the possibility of bringing or buying its own space (AC) cooling for the 2024 Paris Olympics athletes by the middle of this year.

Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian contingent, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, said that the convenience of athletes while being contestants there would be as much as possible.

"The point is whatever we can and can do, then we will do it, including from the AC (water conditioner) side," said Anindya when visiting the national training center (pelatnas) of weightlifters at Mess Kwini, Jakarta, Friday, June 14, 2024.

France as the host country of the 2024 Paris Olympics deliberately did not install air conditioning in athletes' villages and other facilities. This is their effort to make this year's event the most environmentally friendly in history.

Organizers claim athletes' villages designed without air conditioning, use of wood structures, and low-carbon concrete will automatically reduce half the carbon emissions from conventional buildings.

However, this policy looks set to decline as countries, such as Australia and Greece, have plans to bring or buy their own AC.

You see, the host's steps to use natural resources as a cooling room for athletes are considered unable to reach the ideal temperature needed to take a break.

Anindya said that following the wishes like the two countries could be done. However, on the other hand, delegates also need to respect the host's steps in overcoming the environmental crisis.

"So, now we are thinking about whether we can tell by renting or what. However, we must be prepared because such conditions will be faced by all delegates," he said.

To keep the temperature in the athlete's room maintained, the organizers use natural resources and an underground cooling system similar to the one in the Louvre Museum.

Organizers took water from the Marine River for water-based cooling systems in athletes' villages. The cold water will then be channeled through building pipes so that it automatically reduces the temperature throughout the athlete's room.

Some reports say the construction of athletes' villages like this will take seven years and cost around US$2 billion or equivalent to Rp32.5 trillion.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. In total there are more than 10 thousand athletes from 206 delegates who are contestants in the world's most popular multi-events.

Indonesia has a target of bringing home more than two gold medals for the first time in the history of participating in the Olympics. One of the sports (sports) that are relied on is weightlifting.

This sport already has three athletes who will definitely appear there. They are Rizki Juniansyah (class 73 kilograms), Eko Yuli Irawan (class 61 kilograms), and Nurul Akmal (class +81 kilograms).
