PT LIB Waits For Indonesia U-23 Results To Determine A Championship Series League 1 Schedule

Borneo FC is one of the teams that confirmed the 2023/2024 League 1 Championship Series (doc. PT LIB).

JAKARTA - The schedule for the 2023/2024 League 1 Championship Series has not yet been determined even though the Regular Series has entered its 34th or last week.

PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) said that they would wait for the results of the U-23 Indonesian national team match in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup to determine the schedule.

"The schedule for the more detailed Championship Series match will be announced on April 30, 2024, taking into account the results of the U-23 Indonesian national team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup," reads the LIB letter signed by the LIB President Director, Ferry Paulus, quoted on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Currently, the U-23 Indonesian national team is struggling in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Shin Tae-yong's team managed to qualify for the semifinals which exceeded PSSI's target of breaking into the quarter-finals.

In the last four, the U-23 Indonesian national team will face Uzbekistan U-23 at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 21.00 WIB.

If they win against Uzbekistan U-23, Garuda Muda will automatically advance to the final as well as win tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 2024 U-23 Asian Cup final will take place on May 3, 2024.

If they lose in the semifinals, the U-23 Indonesian national team will compete for third place which will be held on May 2, 2024.

This situation then prompted PT LIB to adjust the Championship Series schedule so as not to interfere with Garuda Muda's preparations and focus in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

This schedule adjustment has also been informed to participating clubs with letters numbered 515/LIB-COR/IV/2024.

So far, there have been three clubs that have confirmed themselves to qualify for the Championship Series, namely Borneo FC, Persib Bandung, and Bali United FC. While the remaining slots are still a struggle for Madura United FC, PSIS Semarang, and Dewa United FC.

Championship Series Schedule Adjustment Options:

1. If Indonesia U-23 wins in the semifinals (29 April 2024): the Championship Series will start on 7-8 May 2024.2. If Indonesia U-23 does not succeed in the semifinals (29 April 2024) and wins in the third place (2 May 2024): Championship Series starts on 9-10 May 2024.3. If Indonesia U-23 fails in the semifinals (29 April 2024) and the struggle for third place (2 May 2024) so that Indonesia U-23 must play in the Playoff round of the Paris Olympics Qualification 2024 (9 May 2024): Championship Series starts on 14-15 May 2024.
