Shin Tae-Yong Outspoken About His Feelings Of Meeting South Korea U-23 In The U-23 Asian Cup

JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team met South Korea U-23 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Shin Tae-yong expressed an unusual feeling that approached when he found out he was going to face his home country team.

Garuda Muda is runner-up in Group A with a collection of six points from two matches. This situation made them face Group B winners in the quarter-finals, where the position was filled by South Korea U-23.

Shin Tae-yong, who was indeed a South Korean passport, then admitted that the meeting with the Warriors gave rise to other feelings.

For the first time, he has to face his own country and he admits it's not an easy situation.

"To be honest this is my first experience against my own country and it's difficult for me," Shin Tae-yong said in an online press conference quoted on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Shin Tae-yong felt that discomfort because he also had time to fill the position as a South Korean coach both in the senior team and age group.

"It remains a tough thing. If I had never been a coach of the South Korean national team, maybe it wouldn't be as difficult as this."

"However, I am also happy because I once had the opportunity to sing the national anthem with the South Korean national team at the levels of U-20, U-23, and seniors," said Shin Tae-yong.

Furthermore, Shin Tae-yong, who is also a former South Korean national team midfielder, admitted that he actually wanted to avoid meeting his country in the quarter-finals. However, for him this is a fate that must be faced.

"Indeed, there are other feelings when you have to meet Hwang Sun-hong (South Korean coachU-23) and have to face your own country."

"If possible, I want this meeting to happen in the final, but this is fate. It's difficult, I'm not too happy."

"However, keep exercising. We will do our best," said the coach.
