Discussing Opportunities For The Big Four Of The League, Thomas Doll Admits Persija Is Difficult

JAKARTA - Persija Jakarta coach, Thomas Doll, discussed opportunities for his team's possible entry into the top four of Liga 1 2023/2024. The German coach clearly admitted that the target was quite difficult to achieve.

Currently, Persija are still stuck in 11th position in the standings with a collection of 38 points. Instead of finishing in the top four, the Kemayoran Tigers are closer to the relegation zone which is seven points apart.

The target could be to the top four or the safe boundary for the Championship Series zone was felt heavy because Thomas Doll also reflected on his current team's situation. Persija had to lose five important players who were called up to defend the U-23 Indonesian national team.

"We could be in a better position in the league standings and maybe trying to get to the top four. However, when five players are out, maybe it's (the big four) it's hard to materialize," said Thomas Doll in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Doll admitted that the summons of players to the U-23 Indonesian national team with significant amounts also affected his team's performance.

Efforts to find team players are not easy, especially since the rest of the season is only less than five weeks away. Moreover, Doll also said that the team's current condition could not be separated from their poor steps when they started the season.

"We have no other way to find players. We know this and a lot of things have happened this season. It's not the right moment to talk about this," he said.

Currently Doll said Persija Jakarta only has 15 players in the main squad. Even with modest troops, he still believes that the Kemayoran Tigers can pick up points when they host Persis Solo in the 31st week of Liga 1 2023/2024 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

"I always believe in the players here. Therefore, we have the opportunity to win the home game (Wednesday). We know we are a good team," said Doll.
