Good News, 6 Indonesian Badminton Players Qualify For The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA Six Indonesian representatives from badminton (sports) will certainly qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics which will take place in the middle of this year.

This also ensures that Indonesia has representatives in each sector that will be competed later, namely men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

"This is the fruit of the perseverance in carrying out the process of athletes, coaches, officials, and support teams," said PBSI M. Fadil Imran, chairman of the 2024 Paris Olympics Ad Hoc Team, M. Fadil Imran in a statement.

Representatives of badminton who will appear in Paris will include the men's singles duo Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

The other four, namely the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, the women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, and the mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

Badminton follows a number of other Indonesian sports that have ensured their participation in this year's Olympics, namely archery, artistic gymnastics, shooting, rock climbing, surfing, weightlifting, and athletics.

Fadil said that after this badminton athletes still had to struggle to catch up on points in order to get the leading position in France later.

These points can be obtained in several upcoming tournaments, including the Thomas & Uber Cup and the Indonesia Open in early June.

"This also requires an accurate strategy and the readiness of the athletes. Hopefully, this ticket certainty will give a new spirit to the athletes and the whole team," said Fadil.

In Paris, there will be a total of 172 badminton athletes who will fight in the five sectors above. The badminton branch is one of Indonesia's seeds to get a gold medal.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Indonesia brought home the gold medal from women's doubles through Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and the men's singles bronze medal obtained by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
