Chelsea Causing Liverpool To Make Dark History: Swallow 5 Consecutive Defeats At Anfield

JAKARTA - Chelsea has exacerbated Liverpool's dark record at Anfield Stadium. The Blues picked up a 1-0 win in Matchday 29 of the Premier League on Friday, March 5.

Chelsea's winning goal scored by Mason Mount allowed Liverpool for the first time in history to swallow five consecutive defeats in a Premier League home game.

For Chelsea, the victory continues a positive trend since handled by Thomas Tuchel with eight games without losing. The Blues climbed to fourth on 47 points, leaving Liverpool (43) stuck in the seventh position.

Chelsea tried to kick off from the start, but they couldn't finish their first attack. The line judge had already raised the flag for offside at Timo Werner when the German striker tried to catch Reece James' bait.

The combination of Fabinho and Ozan Kabak at the Liverpool doorstep continued to be tested by Chelsea, who relied on long balls and hulls, but Werner's two chances were still up and the other was right into the arms of goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

In the 24th minute, Werner found the Liverpool net once again with a long ball, when he outwitted Alisson before tucking the ball into the no man's net. Unfortunately, the goal was later disallowed because VAR declared Werner's arm in an offside position.

Four minutes later, Mohamed Salah sent a measured cross into the middle of the penalty box, unfortunately, Sadio Mane failed to control the ball which hit his calf before it was secured by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The fragility of Liverpool's defensive line returned and paid a heavy price when Chelsea opened the scoring three minutes from half-time through Mount's beautiful goal.

Starting from N'Golo Kante's long pass, Mount calmly controlled the ball in front of Fabinho before making a stab and releasing a shot aimed at the far corner of the post beyond Alisson's reach.

Liverpool tried to get back at the end of the first half when Salah returned a fine pass, but this time it was Curtis Jones' turn to fail to control the ball and the Reds had to stop drinking behind.

Three minutes into the second half, Roberto Firmino's cross hit Kante's arm, but referee Martin Atkinson shrugged off the incident, following in the footsteps of Stuart Artwell who last weekend rejected Manchester United's claim for Callum Hudson-Odoi's handball.

In the 54th minute, Chelsea almost doubled their lead but Chilwell's shot was countered by Alisson, and Hakim Ziyech's strike was cleared by Andy Robertson, who was on the line.

Jurgen Klopp tried to overcome the situation by including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Diogo Jota who had just returned from injury while pulling Salah.

The move did not change anything, including the failure to penetrate the strong Chelsea defense line.

Chelsea's 1-0 score lasted until the end, marking Tuchel's first win over Klopp on the road in his career.

Chelsea will next host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday, March 8, a day after Liverpool has once again attempted to change their fortunes at Anfield at home to compete with the relegation team, Fulham.
